Keep Looking Up

Read  2 Samuel 1:1 through 3:39

Then the men of Judah came to Hebron, and there they anointed David king over the tribe of Judah (2 Samuel 2:4).

After the death of Saul, David finally had a kingdom. However, it wasn’t over all of Israel as God had promised. Only the tribe of Judah chose David as its king. The eleven other tribes remained loyal to Saul’s family.

David may have wondered: Where are You, God? Why are things happening this way? Not only had David lived under a threat of death since the time he was anointed king, now he was receiving only part of the kingdom God promised.

Serving God sometimes comes at a great price. First, we must surrender our lives. Then we are to trust the Holy Spirit’s guidance. The things that happen to us may seem all wrong at times—dark and foreboding. Yet, we’ll have strength to hold on if we remember that our loving God is in control. Jesus has already won the Kingdom for us. We are simply called to live by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).

CHALLENGE FOR TODAY: Regardless of what you see, keep your hopes centered in Christ.
