Read Colossians 1:1 through 4:18
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ (Colossians 2:8).
Paul wrote his letter to the Colossians to encourage them and to repudiate some false teachings in their fellowship. These teachings seem to have combined elements of paganism, gnosticism, and Judaism. Gnostic teaching denied the deity of Jesus and stressed the corruption of all matter, while the Jewish element required certain traditions to be observed.
Jesus provided salvation through His death on the Cross. A relationship with God is not based on a ceremony but on faith in what Jesus has done.
Look to Him for everything you need and put aside anything that draws attention from Him.
PRAYER SUGGESTION: Lord, help me to always keep Jesus above everything else in my heart.
