Invested Partnership

Read Philippians 1:1–30

It has been suggested that Philippians was Paul’s love letter to the Philippian church. Although he was a prisoner at the time it was written, his letter radiates his personal joy in the Lord as well as his love and appreciation for the Philippian believers.

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now (Philippians 1:4,5).

What does Paul mean by the expression, “partnership in the gospel”? How could the Philippian believers have been partners with him in the gospel? From the time Paul first came to Philippi, the church had supported him with their encouragement and their gifts of money. Their giving, prayers, and moral support made them partners in the missionary work that Paul was able to do in their area and in other parts of the world.

To effectively spread the gospel, today’s missionaries must have both prayer and financial support. Few of us will go as missionaries, but each of us can become partners in the gospel with those who do go.

CHALLENGE FOR TODAY: Pray as faithfully as you have been blessed by prayer. Give as freely as you have received!
