Read Lamentations 1:1 through 5:22
Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope . . . The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him (Lamentations 3:21,25).
In boxing terms, the people were down for the count. But they were far from out.
In the middle of this series of laments, the prophet Jeremiah reached a moment of great hope. Jeremiah paused to remember the Lord’s never-ending love and unfailing faithfulness.
As the Lord had provided manna to meet His people’s physical needs, He also provides the spiritual strength needed to help us through each day of adversity.
Yes, those were difficult times for Judah. But the Lord had been faithful in exacting His judgment upon the people. He would be equally faithful to help them through that judgment and back into a right relationship with Him.
As we work through discouraging hardships, we would be wise to follow Jeremiah’s actions: stop and find our hope in God. Centering our thoughts on God’s love helps crowd out all feelings of hopelessness that result from surrounding circumstances.
Thought for Today: God’s goodness and love are infinite.
