Read 1 Timothy 1:1 through 6:21
Paul wanted Timothy to choose the right fight. Anyone who serves in the ministry of the gospel faces many real and potential conflicts. Many of these conflicts involve nothing more than personal preference and can sidetrack a minister from the vision God gave him or her. Understanding the charge, Paul gave Timothy the help he needed to bring focus to such times.
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses (1 Timothy 6:12).
Though Timothy served in full-time pastoral ministry, the instructions in this passage apply to every Christian. Many potential conflicts present themselves. However, godly wisdom allows believers to understand the battle that must be waged—“the good fight of the faith.”
Defending and proclaiming God’s Word matters far more than petty issues of personal preference. Therefore, God wants His people to focus their energies and pas- sions on living for Him.
Prayer Suggestion: Ask God to help you fight effectively.
