Seek Me First

Read Song of Solomon* 1:1 through 8:14

My own vineyard I have neglected (Song of Solomon 1:6).

Sonia sank into bed, totally stressed and exhausted. The day had been like most others. Up at five. Get kids ready for school. Drop them off at the bus stop. Off to work. Pick up the kids at the sitter at six. Cook dinner. Clean up the kitchen. Help kids with homework. Do several loads of laundry. And on, and on, and on.

“God,” she whispered. “I can’t take much more of this.”

From the depths of her spirit, these words arose: “If you do not take care of yourself, you will not be able to care for anyone else.”

“But how can a single Mom take care of herself?” she retorted. “By seeking Me first.”

Sonia had to admit she had been neglecting her relationship with the Lord.

It is easy to let the challenges of life take precedence over time with God. Yet it is time with God that provides the wisdom and strength needed to face the challenges of life. To develop a relationship with Christ is to tend one’s own vineyard. Anything less is neglect.

Challenge for Today: Determine to take care of your vineyard by putting God first.
