Say “Yes” to God

Read Genesis 12:1 through 14:24

Florence Nightingale was born into a wealthy British family. Her parents expected her to live a life of ease, but at sixteen her life changed. She said, “God called me to His service.” When she asked her parents to allow her to study nursing, they were horrified. Nursing at that time was not a respected profession.

At age thirty, the call came again, and Florence said “yes.” She and other nurses went to help victims of the Crimean War in 1854. Their efforts saved many lives. Florence said of nursing, “Christ is the author of our profession.” Because one person said “yes,” nursing became an honorable occupation. Like Florence, Abram received a call from God.

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you” (Genesis 12:1).

Because Abram said “yes,” the nation Israel was founded. This nation gave the world the Savior.

Saying “yes” to God opens the door for Him to speak to us and to allow us to accomplish His purposes on earth—helping and healing needy people.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Jesus empowers those He calls.
