Redemption’s Price

Read Hosea 1:1 through 3:5

God told His prophet Hosea to marry an adulterous woman. Hosea’s life became a picture of God’s love for Israel and Israel’s constant unfaithfulness toward God. Hosea’s wife left him to chase after other men, but the story doesn’t end with a brokenhearted prophet.

The Lord said to me, “Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes” (Hosea 3:1).

Hosea bought back his own wife, who had been sold into slavery. This wasn’t just a command of God, but a heart response from the prophet who cared about his wife. The Book of Hosea isn’t just about a cheating wife, but a loving husband.

Likewise, God purchased our freedom because of His love for us. God’s love is greater than our unfaithfulness, and He wants us to be with Him forever. Our response to His lavish, unselfish love should be unfailing devotion to Him.

PRAYER SUGGESTION: Thank God for His faithful love.
