Peace, Be Still

Read Mark 4:1 through 5:43

Jesus and His disciples got into a boat heading for the other side of the Sea of Galilee. Exhausted from ministering to crowds of people all day, Jesus lay down in the back of the boat and went to sleep. About halfway across the lake, a violent wind came up. Though the disciples had watched Jesus heal people and perform miracles all day, they were terrified as the waves broke over their boat and threatened to destroy them.

[Jesus] got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm (Mark 4:39).

Each of us faces storms in our life—emotional storms, relational storms, economic storms, or maybe even storms related to our physical health. Sometimes it seems our lives will capsize and we will drown. But the same Jesus who spoke to the winds and the waves of the Sea of Galilee can speak to the storms we encounter and cause the waves to subside.

Prayer for Today: Help me, Jesus, to remember that you are Master of any storm I may face today.
