Read Exodus 1:1 through 4:31
Elaine and Patrick, in their late twenties, have three children, named Madison, Morgan, and Parker. When asked why she and her husband selected names once used as surnames for their child’s first names, Elaine explains they prefer “strong names,” names denoting strength and character.
When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, “I drew him out of the water” (Exodus 2:10).
Moses was named “Moses” because of an event—the occasion of a privileged young woman (Pharaoh’s daughter) actually pulling him out of the water, saving his life! The name also pointed toward the future. Just as he was rescued as an infant, Moses would be used by God to rescue His people from Egyptian slavery. God sees the hearts of His children, and calls them “sons,” “daughters,” “friends,” and “beloved.” He looks beyond their present state of growth and sees them as citizens of His eternal kingdom.

As Christians, we have full authority to use the powerful name of Jesus.
