Light from the Old Testament

Read  Leviticus 23:1 through 27:34

Margie was sharing the gospel with Joanie, young woman who professed a cultic religion. Joanie stopped Margie with a question: “Christians say the Jews are God’s chosen people. What does that mean?” While Margie knew about Jesus’ life, she lacked knowledge of the Old Testament, so Joanie ended the conversation.

“‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you’” (Leviticus 26:9).

God chose Israel to bless the world through His written Word and through the Living Word, Jesus. By obeying the laws of Moses, Israel was to be God’s light to the dark world. The Mosaic law would reveal to people their sinfulness and need for a Savior. Christ said that He did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. Some people wrongly believe that keeping the Law saved God’s chosen people of the Old Testament, but the Bible is clear that salvation has always been by faith alone (see Genesis 15:6).
