Read Jeremiah 28:1 through 30:24
Jeremiah actually witnessed the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. He watched as thousands of
his fellow citizens were taken into captivity by the cruel Babylonians.
After they went into exile, Jeremiah sent a letter to the Babylonian captives. He told them their freedom wouldn’t come immediately, but after seventy years they would be able to return to their homeland. He offered them words of comfort and hope.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
In the worst situations in life, God still extends His comfort and hope. God has a plan for each person. Even when things look dark or when serious mistakes have been made, God promises a bright future to His people. That should give Christians hope. When God’s people see their situations as He does, hope will well up in their hearts.
CHALLENGE FOR TODAY: Be hopeful in every situation.
