Clean Up the House

Read 2 Chronicles 27:1 through 29:36

John asked Jesus into his heart about a year ago and began attending the youth group meetings on Tuesdays. On the way home one night, something started nagging at his heart. Funny, he had never really thought about it before, but certain movies and music in his collection were not all that edifying. The same thing was true for that pack of cigarettes in his pocket. Sure, he had been trying to quit. In fact, he had cut way down. Still, one thing seemed clear – it was time for these distractions to go.

The priests went into the sanctuary of the Lord to purify it. They brought out to the courtyard of the Lord’s temple everything unclean that they found in the temple of the Lord. The Levites took it and carried it out to the Kidron Valley (2 Chronicles 29:16).

Non-edifying practices can creep into our lives. Other habits or faults have been there all along. Either way, the Holy Spirit knows when the time is right for spiritual growth. With His gentle conviction also comes the power to remove or overcome whatever hinders.

Challenge for Today: Let the Spirit of God sweep the clutter out of your heart.
