Read Exodus 5:1 through 11:10
Like the rest of humanity, Christians tend to be impatient. When we pray about a crisis, we often want God to send the answer immediately. Sometimes He does. Other times, however, God does not seem to move as quickly as we like. Such times test our faith, but they also develop our characters.
Even Moses, one of Israel’s greatest leaders, had to learn to wait on the Lord. God promised to free the Israelites from Egyptian bondage and instructed Moses to tell Pharaoh to let them go. Moses delivered the message, but Pharaoh disobeyed and things got harder on the Israelites. In resentment, they blamed Moses. Rather than giving up and walking away, Moses prayed.
“Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble upon this people, and you have not rescued your people at all” (Exodus 5:23).
Maybe you can identify with Moses’ feelings of frustration. Perhaps you, too, feel you have followed God’s instructions in a particular matter only to find that things have gotten worse. Take heart; God answered Moses’ prayer and repeated His promise to free the Israelites. The fulfillment of the promise is found in Exodus 12. You can trust God to meet your needs as well.
