Leadership

Read 1 Kings 12:1 through 16:34

David, Israel’s second king, “had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah the Hittite” (1 Kings 15:5). David was remorseful for his horrible crime against Uriah, and he confessed his sin to God. Few of Israel’s following kings loved God and were as obedient as David.

When Israel first asked God for a king, rejecting Him in favor of men, He warned them of the trouble it would bring. By the fourth generation, Israel’s corrupt kings began a tidal wave of destruction: The nation fractured; deceit, conspiracy, murder, and wars between Israel and the tribes of Judah and Benjamin ensued.

Leadership that is not submitted to God opens the flood gate to ruin. To be constructive, responsible leaders, our lives and leadership must be yielded to God. As humans, we often fall short. But if we surrender ourselves to the Leader and confess our shortfalls, He is faithful to forgive us, heal us, and put us back on course.

CHALLENGE FOR TODAY: Make note of all the leaders in your life and commit to pray for them regularly.
